After performing their new material on the streets of Santa Monica, their fan base began to truly build. Though the excitement of their original sound was the beginning of something special for Danny and Eric, they decided to add a female vocalist to counter-balance the duo. In the summer of 2008, the soulful Texas beauty, Tarah New, became the third member of Shytown. The trio combines rap with melodic, harmonious hooks backed by an acoustic guitar. Some have described it as “The Beach Boys meets Eminem meets Jack Johnson.” Shytown is currently recording their debut album and plan a summer of 2009 release.

Screams could be heard miles away, the energy was so high we think it could have powered an airplane! The anticipation was high and had been building all day as the event began with the first performance at 11:30 am for the FLY 92.3 Summer Jam at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in New York! It was a fun filled day packed with lots of food, music, and activity booths.
We arrived right on time for Jesse McCartney’s performance around 6:45. There was a long line at one of the tents as
fans all waited to meet with Kevin Rudolf who performed earlier that day. You really didn’t have to guess where the theater was, just follow the screams and you’ll be there. Screams of joy of course. The lawn sections were truly set up for a summer show with many concert goers on beach towels and lawn chairs, all ready for the show. Everyone was bouncy from the day’s festivities. We met some great fans of Jesse’s along the way.
The concert was about to start, the anticipation was sky high. The band took the stage and
the back up singers/dancers, Aaron and Phil, appeared. Only one person missing, Jesse. The wait wasn’t long, he appeared looking cool and collected with some shades to add to the entire feel of the show. The first song was “My Baby,” a song from his newest album, “Departure.” The choreography was tight, Aaron and Phil compliment Jesse’s performance nicely. The show was in full swing from the get go with Jesse’s voice being drowned out with tons of screaming fans nearly every thirty seconds. Jesse performed for a solid hour with hits like, “Leavin,” “Runnin’,” “Rock You,” “Relapse,” “How Do You Sleep,” “Beautiful Soul,” “Jesse’s Girl,” Oxygen,” “Freaky,” and “Body Language.”
Highlights
Jesse’s Dancing
Jesse has been working with some fantastic choreographers and dance teachers. He worked the stage with some dazzling moves and moves a little more like MTV than Disney.
Multi-Talented backup
Aaron and Phil, Jesse’s backup are not only dancers with some sharp moves, but also singers and gymnasts. They were doing flips and moves quick and to the beat. Their voices were on showcase too in a few spot solos.
Oxygen
No, not the air, but Jesse’s song, “Oxygen.” It’s a song where Jesse, with the help of his backup singers looks throughout the audience on a search for a “single girl.” After a long search, Jesse picked a young blonde named Tiffany to be his “single girl.” The poor girl looked like she could use some extra oxygen as the MTV aged moves hit her. Jesse performed this very flirtatious song while Tiffany (not Stephanie, thanks for letting us know!) was left to sit on the chair with Jesse only centimeters away from her. Huge hit with the audience. What a lucky lucky girl!
Old sounds
So maybe “Beautiful Soul” isn’t technically old, but since it was from Jesse’s first album, the new rendition of the song was quickly recognized from those guitar sounds. Performed with even more energy than before, this song is still a crowd favorite for those who were Jesse fans from the start.
Story Behind Sleep
Jesse lets the audience in on the story behind yet another “Departure” hit, “How Do You Sleep?” He starts it off by, “you know how a week, month, or year can go by and you’re wondering what (on earth) is she doing??” Then he goes into the “How do you sleep” song, where he tells the story of wondering how an ex can sleep at night knowing how she acted towards him.
Moved All Around
This stage as is usual with most theaters had a left side, center section, and right side. Jesse and his backup performers moved all over the stage and gave equal attention to every section. This isn’t easy, but the show encompassed the whole crowd even when he would shout out to the balcony and lawn crowd.
Lowlights
Scream!
Perhaps the fact that the screams overpowered the strong sound system of the SPAC where Jesse’s voice was drowned out. This is not the sound system’s fault though. We don’t believe it would be possible for the human ears to actually hear anything louder, even if the speakers were above the screams.
Shh
Jesse talked at times to the audience sharing anecdotes and introducing the band. We actually wish Jesse talked more, it’s fun to hear about his stories surrounding the songs.
Closing
Jesse McCartney closed out the show with his newest song, “Body Language.” It is a song due out as a collaboration with “T-Pain.” The song had a definite R&B vibe with very passionate moves on everyone’s part. “Body Language” was well received, expect to hear a lot more of this one!
Saratoga Springs has expanded quite a bit. It was our first time at the Performing Arts Center and would be happy to go again!
Jesse McCartney will be performing throughout the summer all around the country, working with New Kids on the Block and other radio summer festivals.
Tori’s Encounter with Push Play
My name is Tori and I met Push Play before and Islander game. They were performing and me and my friend went over to them and they were really nice. A few weeks later, at the Thanksgiving day parade my friends and I were
standing there and we turn around and CJ Baran is behind us with Derek. We took a picture and talked for a while about the upcoming CD release party. Those guys are awesome and their music is amazing.
Kim’s Encounter with Push Play
I met Push Play when I was waiting on line for a Jonas Brothers concert over the summer. They were so nice! I also met them 2 times after that including their press conference and at the NYC thanksgiving day parade. here is a picture of me and my 2 friends, tori and sam, with Derek and CJ on Thankgiving.
