Kara Dioguardi convinced Steven Tyler to judge American Idol?

In Steven Tyler’s new book, “Does the Noise In My Head Bother You?” he shares many personal insights and stories from his life.  He explains how a text message (yes Steven Tyler texts!) got him on the popular reality show.  The following is an excerpt from his book, in his own words:

On how a text from Kara Dioguardi got him on American Idol:

“June 29, 2010. We were on tour in France, when Kara DioGuardi texted me asking if I’ve ever thought about being a judge on “American Idol,” because apparently she didn’t want to continue doing it. I didn’t know. Like a dummy, I went, “Does it still have high ratings?” She’s going, “Oh, yeah!” So I said, “Well, I’ll get back to you.”
