Season 13 of “American Idol” is currently in the making, but it seems country singer Keith Urban will be the only returning judge—that is, from the year 2013.
Jennifer Lopez has officially announced her return to the hit television show, alongside former Idol mentor Harry Connick Jr.
Lopez revealed to People magazine that she did miss “American Idol” during the past year she spent on her first world tour. The singer stated that she was glad to return as a judge in the singing competition, even if it was a bit difficult to fit the show into her schedule.
Despite last season’s constant talk about an intense decrease in ratings, J-Lo believes that the show will not disappoint. This time around, the spotlight won’t be on the judges, but rather on the talent of the competitors.
The pop singer said, “The focus is back where it’s supposed to be—on the show and contestants, and tuning in for some great entertainment, a few laughs and that emotion that comes along with that ride and journey.”
While Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj have officially departed from the reality show, and former judge of two seasons Randy Jackson only returning as a mentor, Keith Urban appears to be getting along with the new judges by his side. Urban jokingly wrote of Harry Connick Jr. on Twitter as Harry Styles.
This upcoming season of American Idol will begin airing in January 2014 with Ryan Seacrest back as the host.
